Annotation

This research reports on overt and covert language attitudes of speakers of Jamaican Creole. The interview data reveal varied attitudes: while a certain ambivalence towards Jamaican Creole was observed, the respondents' appropriateness judgements correlated with their social distance from the interlocutor. Effects of age and gender, as well as gender grading are also discussed.
