This book offers six particularly sociolinguistic approaches to discourse analysis in three sections: the scope of discourse analysis; approaches to discourse analysis; and comparison and contrast of the six approaches relative to their treatment of and focus on discourse structure versus function, text and context, discourse and communication and language as social interaction.
