Besides an introduction to the field and a presentation of the two dominant approaches to the discourse analysis of gender differences in conversation, i.e. 'cultural differences' vs 'power/dominance', this book contains five chapters on gender and language: power and solidarity strategies in talk; interruptions; proxemics issues; discursive strategies in a fictional text and ethnic differences in interpreting indirectness.
