This book illustrates that "key concepts" in language reflect core cultural values. Based on these key concepts and on the framework of natural semantic metalanguage, it is argued that cultures can be studied, compared and explained. Cases in point are the languages and cultures of Japan, Australia, Poland, and Russia.
