Nine dissertations with respect to the major South African languages form the basis of this main report of the STANON research program, discussing topics as function and status of language varieties, standard vs. colloquial language, influence of non-standard language on standard language at and outside school. Particularly present in force is the discussion concerning the relationship between mixed township varieties.
