Annotation

The basic tenet of cognitive linguistics is that every linguistic expression is a construal relation. After a collection of papers exploring image schemas and construal transformations in general, papers on specific linguistic units ranging from particles, case endings, and prepositions to reflexives, modal auxiliaries, lexical verbs and constructions in a variety of languages show that they play a role in the construction of meaning at every level of the sentence.
