Annotation
An analysis concerning syntax-intonation interaction. More specifically, the author examines the theme/rheme interpretation of Norwegian utterances whose intonation pattern contains two focal accents. It is argued that in inferring which one of those focal accents is to be associated with the information-structural notion of theme, and which one with the notion of rheme, speakers rely relatively more on syntax-intonation interaction in grammar, and less on discourse and contextual features.
