Annotation

The author analyzes 8 Korean narratives in terms of discourse structure. The theoretical framework adopted is that of tagmemic theory (K. Pike), elaborated by R. Longacre, and philosophical theories regarding `wholeness', and the relations between a whole and its parts (i.a. Gadamer, Hirsh). The Korean texts are analyzed from three view points: (1) syntagmatic organizational structure, (2) features of verbs that signal the relative importance of information, and (3) use of nouns in participant reference.
