Annotation
An attempt to introduce considerations of discourse structure into a semantic model that is linguistically relevant. This attempt is brought to bear on a simple formal device called a 'contextual rule', adding and deleting constraints on discourse resulting from knowledge. In particular, C. focuses on the constraints of past tense, foregrounding, the identity of the speaker, and definiteness.
