L. has the dual aim of providing a general introduction into linguistics in general, and a more specific introduction into child-language development. Thus, each discussion of a major subfield of linguistics is followed by a discussion of how the concepts developed in that subfield are (or can be) relevant to the domain of child-language development. The subfields included are semantics (+ the development of meaning), grammar (+ syntactic development), phonology (+ phonological development), and sociolinguistics (+ social aspects of language development).
