L. examines the pragmatic structure of communication by means of forms. The basic assumption is that the characteristics of forms cannot be reduced to lexical and syntactical aspects. The analysis centers around the relationship between 4 maxims: (a) understandability, (b) relevance, (c) honesty, and (d) truthfulness.
