Annotation
The author aims to show that observational study of the communicative goals that lead people to argue is necessary and possible, and that understanding their complexity is essential for the understanding of the way arguments are developed and terminated. Objects of study are arguments initiated by assertion-challenge sequences or by reproaches that are not accepted, and arguments between playing children.
