Analysis of the relationship between language use and societal processes. The basic assumption is that language use is at the same time the coming into being of a social consciousness as well as its visible expression; the language is both the vehicle and the product of human societalization. A theoretical model of language in society is built, and applied to two empirical cases: Danish Radio reports on the 1976 Danish `oil strike', and Danish immigrant language education material.
