The paradox mentioned in the title refers to the fact that when one tries to situate pragmatics vi-à-vis the Saussurian distinction between `language' and `parole', it appears to belong to both; or, viewed the other way around, from the perspective of pragmatics Saussures' clear distinctions becomes fuzzy.
