A discussion of the pragmatic analysis of discourse, focusing mainly on conversation and argumentation. The author gives an overview of current research trends on these subjects, and proposes a model for discourse - or conversational analysis. He also discusses methodological issues such as the definition of the observables in pragmatic discourse analysis, and the type(s) of concepts required to adequately account for these observables.
