Annotation

N. introduces the concept of a Functional Procedural Grammar, which combines cognitivism and functionalism in its approach to language, and illustrates this perspective with an analysis of negative-raising. Topics under discussion are: the cognitivist and functionalist points of view and their intervelation, the formalism/functionalism debate, the Chomskyan conception of language and cognition, Dik's Functional Grammar, and the nature of linguistic and conceptual knowledge.
