Annotation

The author aims to give a psychological explanation of the metaphorization processes in English using the general concept of motion as a starting point. More specifically, an analysis is made of the concept of motion and its metaphorical extensions, illustrated with the verbs `to come' and `to go', and suggesting that the figurative usages of these motion verbs can be traced back to their spatial senses, from which they have arisen more or less spontaneously.
