Analysis of acts of explanation. The author does not establish a priori limits to the notion of explanation. Her approach is to take into account all those speech acts that people are prepared to call `explanations'. It is then examined how such communicative acts can make themselves recognized, and how they can be characterized with regard to illocutionary function.
