S. calls in question the assumption that the `facts of communication' are independent of their metalinguistic description, and advances the thesis that they are influenced and partly constituted or `produced' by the act of their metalinguistic formulation, and insofar are not `objectively' given but dependent on the investigating suject. This thesis is of special importance in intercultural research, since in that context `objectivity' will usually mean `Eurocentrism'.
