Tomlin, Russell S. 1987. Linguistic reflections of cognitive events. In Tomlin, Russell S., ed. Coherence and grounding in discourse: Outcome of a symposium, Eugene, Oregon, June 1984. John Benjamins. pp. 455–479.
Annotation
The author examines the relationship between the thematic organization of narrative discourse production as reflected in its episodic organization, and the syntax of reference, the diferential use of nominal and pronominal form in discourse production. It is argued that the syntax of refering is a function of episodic or thematic boundaries at a local level. The episodic boundaries are seen as a speaker-based re-orientation of attention during discourse production.
