Annotation
The authors examine the question of how Indians determine the answer to the question `Who is an Indian?', and the counterpart of that question, `How does a real Indian make himself or herself recognizable as a real Indian?'. The latter question is investigated through a study of appropriateness-criteria for communicative behavior among Indians.
