After a general discussion of the distinction between explicit and implicit meaning of an utterance, and an evaluation of Grice's approach to this issue, B. proposes a framework for explaining the relationship between linguistic form and pragmatic interpretation, based on Sperber and Wilson's Principle of Relevance.
