In order to account for conversations involving more than two people, C. and C. claim that every utterance consists of two types of illocutionary acts: one is the traditional kind; the other is an 'informative' directed at all the participants (addressee and third parties alike) and is intended to inform them of the assertion, promise, etc. directed at the addressee.
