Annotation
C. argues that 'not a one' (e.g. in 'He didn't ask us one question, not a one'), like other expressions of the same sort such as 'not a wink', etc., are syntactically and semantically derivable from full sentences containing 'even', preserving the presuppositions in question. Further it is argued that the derivation of such constructions requires the adoption of 'amalgams' in a theory of grammar.
