An analysis of the acquisition of knowledge of event structures and the early organization of memory, based on a corpus of conversations between two Spanish speaking girls (about 20-30 months old) and their families about past events. Three stages of development are identified: (a) dependency on adult participation, (b) dependency on `scripts', and (c) talk about unique occurrences, but difficulty in planning lenghty discourse.
