This paper takes a look at the description of binary grammatical oppositions, and demonstrates the need for a functional notions of a subjective nature to account for such differences. The discussion centers on the parameters at work in distinguishing restrictive vs nonrestrictive relative clauses and progressive vs non-progressive aspect.
