C. suggests that the organization of conversation may have explanatory import for grammatical processes in natural languages. The example is thematization in Luo, a Nilo-Saharan language spoken in Kenya. C. argues that in Luo the initial constituent in a sentence is marked for the relational function 'theme', while the remainder constitutes a 'rheme'.
