This book approaches language from the discourse side using methods from contemporary linguistic ethnography. The first section contains a theoretical and empirical presentation of the event-structural approach of the 'ethnography of speaking', describing everyday language as a situated praxis and discussing 'speech event' concept and (Samoan) practice. The second part has a more explorative character and compares Samoan and Anglo-Saxon worlds.
