This book is set up as a contribution to the study of Australian Aboriginal sign languages and communication and to the comparative study of semiotic systems. A distinction is made between primary and alternate and between autonomous and derivative sign systems. The focus lies on the discussion of Northern Central Desert sign languages and their structure, form, meaning, use and contexts of use.
