On the inclusion of a pragmatic component in the theory of language. Contains discussions of the nature of pragmatics, its relation to semiotics, triadic relations in the signs and the influence of context, the position of pragmatics with respect to the dichotomies langue/parole and competence/performance, and of some recent attemps at defining the scope of pragmatics.
