This collection of papers offers an ethnographic and discourse analytic approach of conversational interactions between mentally retarded adults and researchers or professional care providers. Notwithstanding the plea to take into account the variety of settings in which these people operate, no evidence is provided of their abilities outside the group home or sheltered workshop.
