Comparing Catalan PAS and NO-PAS negative constructions, it is argued that the latter additionally contributes to conventional implicatures and to the sort of contextual implications to be drawn, not to truth-conditions. The systematic association of specific interpretations with NO-PAS is attributed to its status of linguistic marker of echoic interpretive use.
