This paper investigates isomorphism or structural iconicity as an explanatory principle of language universals, as a child learns a language structured in a given way and later changes do not destroy the isomorphic relation to the extralinguistic reality. Iconicity then is shown to be a special case of analogy and analogy-based universal grammar is contrasted with the modularity hypothesis.
