This volume offers a dominantly functional approach to the study of language universals. The truly typological studies, constituting the main part, fall into two groups: studies based on the analysis of a wide range of languages, which highlight functional-typological methodology and rationalizing; studies based on the analysis of just a few languages, which outline a specific typological parameter and its potential for typological research.
