Annotation

This review of research on affective communication in conversations between members of different social groups discusses three contexts which often cause communication problems: self-disclosure of painful events and emotions, marriage conflicts and assertive communication. In these highly rule- and power-governed contexts people appear to use strategies that maximize their own comfort and sense of power.
