It is argued that right-detachment in Catalan is the structural reflection of one type of information-packaging instruction. It encodes in particular instructions cum tail, which specify a particular record that the information of the sentence alters or completes. It is demonstrated that the association between particular forms and functions can vary across languages as the discourse function carried out by right-detachment in Catalan can be expressed exclusively by phonological means in English.
