Annotation
This paper, investigating the origins of the distinction between the stressed focus (SF) and the informative-presupposition (IP) IT-cleft, shows that the IP IT-cleft, which conveys new information, possibly unknown to the reader, is a late Middle English innovation, generated by the convergence of several cleft and cleft-like copular constructions.
