Davison, Alice. 1975. Parasitic speech acts. San Jose State Occasional Papers in Linguistics 1 : 45–55.
Annotation
A discussion of the real and apparent exceptions to the following two principles: speech acts cannot be freely embedded and retain their illocutionary force; a speech act consisting of an independent utterance (i.e. preceded and followed by silence) has only one illocutionary force even if it is not clear what the force is. The exceptions are shown to be quite systematic.
