This paper examines Brazilian gender relations from the perspective of language through a critical analysis of commonsense assumptions and presuppositions in texts about women and texts produced by women, which indicate two main coexistence forms, the discourse of control and the discourse of liberation, besides a third form revealing discourse change in progress (the claim to integrate women's rights in the Constitution).
