Annotation

This book focuses on the hegemonic role of English -viz. the global spread of English and English language teaching (ELT)-, and the underlying politico-economic motives, from the perspective of developing countries. Although P. ascribes ELT-promotion in developing countries today primarily to activities of the British Council and other UK state agencies, it is the United States that play a leading role here.
