Annotation
Assuming substantial differences between languages and between complex and non-complex cultures, P. raises questions about the evolution and structure of language and
argues that the occurrence of deictic markers on nouns and verbs is inversely correlated with the complexity of culture. In a 49-language/culture sample, P. analyzes the categories of person, dual, inclusive/exclusive, demonstratives and tense, pointing to the extralinguistic immediate context.
