Annotation

The possibility of intrinsic grammatical constraints is shown to invalidate the poverty of the stimulus argument. Other characteristics intrinsic to the functional nature of language are the phenomena of implicature, the hermeneutic circle and forms of creative language. Intrinsic constraints, in sum, are shown to constitute a rich and underexplored realm of explanations and understandings of language.
