Primarily conceived as a critical approach to Gricean theories applied to the treatment of EVEN, this paper shows the inadequacy of some pragmatic approaches in describing EVEN in terms of logical relations. EVEN, considered as an argumentative operator, is investigated in its interaction with the connective AND, and the constraints on the application of AND EVEN are characterized as inferential.
