This paper tests the descriptive tools constituted by topoi and topical forms through the analysis of the uses of POURTANT. DONC and POURTANT are regarded as respectively 'regular' and 'exceptive' expressions of the same argumentative principle, which leads to the rejection of the logical hypothesis considering argumentation as a form of inference.
