This book applies basic linguistic concepts and methods to the study of argumentation. Toulmin's "grammar of argument" diagram is basic to the grammar of argumentation developed in chapter 5, offering a new grammatical approach to argument analysis and "generation". The pragmatics of argument are discussed under different headings and represent other important linguistic orientations.
