Comparing the uses of the English simple verb form in direction-giving on the basis of their inherent grammatical representation of duration, it is found that in direction-giving 'event time' is considered as prospective and thus differs from that in uses commonly categorized as stative or dynamic. This prospective representation is also found in for instance commands, either/or sentences and certain uses of the past tense.
