Annotation

This monograph introduces the central concepts of B. 's functional theory of linguistics in Russia to a Western readership. The first chapter covers the basic concepts of function and their relationship to grammatical categories. The second chapter mainly deals with the theory-internal question of the structure of functional-semantic fields. Chapter three introduces the concept of categorial situations as the other of the two fundamental aspects of B.'s functional grammar and it discusses their relationship.
