This article focuses on code displacement in reported speech, i.e. the non-isomorphic attribution of code choices to characters as contrasted with their expected behavior, a power-based process of intention/interpretation building conversational alliances and interactional control, whilst mapping these observations against the broader social context of language spread and institutionalization of Galician Portuguese in bilingual Galiza.
