This study on the adverbial YA in Mexican and Central American Spanish discourse, shows its functions as a reflector of temporal and aspectual information and as a discourse marker to highlight different elements and express emotional emphasis, thus creating discourse cohesion. A small class of adverbials, such as NADA MAS, appear to work similarly. Given their multi-functional abilities, these adverbials are important to the narrative.
