This paper applies the principle of parsimony to a range of task-oriented information types, using the HCRC dialogue database of map tasks (Anderson et al; 1991), and identifies a range of applicable recovery strategies. Risk-taking and recovery are shown to be crucial for efficient dialogue as they indicate which information to transfer and allow control of the interaction.
